JOKNAL PRODUCTS LTD
In the early 1980's, John (Jock) and Alison (Al) Howie left their occupations in farm management and took up positions with a leading fruit processor in South Canterbury, where they worked for the next 14 years. John was in production and Alison in QC and product development.
Then John was diagnosed with diabetes, and discovered that the selection of available products with low sugar content was pretty minimal. So they set up a small production facility in the old Orari railway station, utilising the skills that they had gained to make "diabetic friendly" jams and sauces.
Within a couple of years, the station proved to be too small when orders started to appear from the USA and other countries, so they packed up and moved everything to a factory in Blenheim in 2001.
